Astrologer Venu Swamy's popularity is decent. In the past, he has met with YS Jaganmohan Reddy, among others. He has often repeated that Jagan will surely win the 2024 Assembly elections and will continue to lead Andhra Pradesh successfully in the second term.
After yesterday's Telangana results, the reputed astrologer claimed in an interview that it was he who had advised Revanth Reddy to jump ship to the Congress party after studying the horoscope of both the leader (Revanth) and the party.
So far, so good. Nobody can verify whether Venu Swamy actually gave Revanth that advice. So, no arguments and counter-arguments could be made here without valid proof.
But then, Venu Swamy went on to add that he knew the Congress party would secure the exact number of seats that it did - 64 seats. Why then didn't he declare it in public? "I predicted the figure in my private conversations with one lakh people. I didn't make the prediction publicly because there was a possibility of the Election Commission of India objecting to it," Venu Swamy said.
All sorts of astrologers make predictions about election results. This has been happening for decades. None of them has ever faced any action from the ECI.
Venu Swamy also said that his prediction would have titled 1-3% vote share in favour of the party that was billed to win. In such a case, Venu Swamy believes that he has the power to determine electoral outcomes. Quite a superman!
