Gossip: Big stars charge exorbitant fees but small actors target film critics

Bigg Boss Telugu title winner VJ Sunny's outburst against film critics at a recent 'Unstoppable' event has raised eyebrows. Sunny has found himself becoming a subject of ridicule, as a certain portion of the media has taken pleasure in mocking him. They criticize him for blaming film critics for his movie's failure to captivate the audience.

Sunny highlighted the harsh reality of the film industry, stating that cine workers often receive meager payments as low as Rs 300-400 per day. By emphasizing this figure, he aimed to convey the message that an industry facing such challenges should not be subjected to negative reviews from the media.

The targeting of review writers is not a new phenomenon in the film industry. Even prominent stars like Allu Arjun (following the release of 'DJ') and Jr NTR (following the release of 'Jai Lava Kusa') have expressed their dissatisfaction with film critics, particularly regarding the ratings their movies received.

The line of thinking adopted by film personalities is that people work very hard to bring out any film. The struggle of cine workers, especially, is highlighted to sound emotive.

The film industry can be an exploitative environment, particularly when it comes to the wages of cine workers. The responsibility for such low wages may lie with certain practices within the industry. If the remuneration of the lead actor were reduced by a percentage, say 20-30%, that amount could potentially be distributed among the cine workers. Instead of shedding crocodile tears for cine workers, it would be more meaningful to take concrete actions to address their plight.
