The government of Telangana has filed a writ petition with the Supreme Court to request that Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan approve the Bills that have been passed by the state Legislature. The government has brought to the attention of the court that there are currently 10 Bills pending with Raj Bhavan. While seven of these Bills have been waiting for approval since September 2022, three Bills were sent to the Governor last month for her approval.

The petition is expected to be heard on Friday. This is not the first time that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has approached the court with regard to the Governor. Last month, the government went to the Telangana High Court seeking direction for the Governor to approve the state Budget for 2023-24. However, the court suggested that both sides work towards a compromise.

In November, the Governor rejected the allegations made by BRS that her office was delaying the Bills sent by the state government for her approval. With national ambitions, Telangana CM KCR seems to be emulating how NTR swayed public opinion against the Indira Gandhi led Central government by exposing how governor positions were being misused to harass opposition ruled state governments. NTR succeeded in his strategy and now KCR seems to be particular on exposing the alleged biased attitude of the incumbent governor towards his administration.
