The central government has reportedly granted clearance for engineers to repair the damaged part of the Polavaram Project.  Following a review meeting on Sunday, authorized technical teams have given engineers the green light to fill the two huge holes formed at the dam and reconstruct those parts.

Damage to the extent of 485 meters of the diaphragm wall out of its 1,396 meters has been identified, and many gaps were found. The central government has also permitted the reconstruction of the diaphragm wall where necessary. The project works were at a standstill for the past few months, but engineers can now restart them.

The technical teams have advised the Polavaram engineers to complete the work speedily and before the rainy season. Water resources minister Ambati Rambabu visited the Polavaram project site on Sunday and said that the diaphragm wall was badly damaged due to floods last year, and nearly 46 lakh cubic meters of sand would be required to fill up the holes.

The minister also stated that the previous Telugu Desam government and then-chief minister Chandrababu Naidu should take responsibility for the damage to the diaphragm wall.
