Are Satta Bazar trends, pollsters making BJP over-confident?

As far as many BJP leaders and voters are concerned, there is no contest this time. The BJP alone will win more than 320 seats (272 is the halfway mark in Lok Sabha), a section of the BJP and a large chunk of its voters have been saying lately.

On social media, tweets by pro-BJP handles regarding so-called Satta Bazar trends are giving the saffron party a clean landslide of sorts. "Bookies are giving 331 seats to BJP and only 43 seats to Congress. They are predicting BJP's clean sweep in Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh," says a tweet that has so far garnered more than 1.3 lakh views. This is just one example. There are hundreds of handles on X and accounts on Facebook and Instagram talking about a similar landslide for the BJP. These social media posts are reaching millions every day.

As for pollsters and psephologists, they have been painting a rosy picture for Modi. In his latest interview to senior journalist Barkha Dutt, C Voter's Yashwant Deshmukh went on to say that the BJP could stun everyone by winning all 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.

A section of the pro-Congress intelligentsia say that the BJP is becoming overconfident and this will eventually help Rahul Gandhi. "The NDA is in a bad shape in Maharashtra. It is not going to do well in Bihar, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. There could be surprises in Delhi," a commentator said.
