Nellore district is going to make for an interesting viewing in the coming electoral trends in Andhra Pradesh. The Nellore voters were unanimously with YSR Congress in 2019 by giving all 10 seats to the Jagan party.
But in view of the changed trends in 2024, the situation might not be as straightforward for the Jagan led party this time around. Here is a look at the important Kovur constituency which has YCP's Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy and TDP's Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy in the contest.
Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy benefits from a long family association with local people, which is a positive aspect. However, he is facing allegations related to involvement with the sand mafia, and a dispute with his brother Rajendra Kumar Reddy is sending negative messages to segment voters.
Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy possesses strong financial strength, bolstered by her husband Prabhakar Reddy's charisma. The campaign efforts of Polamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy are strengthening her vote share. Furthermore, the Vemireddy family's strong connections and following throughout Nellore are significant assets.
As things stand, Prashanthi Reddy is poised to give a tough fight to sitting MLA Prasanna Kumar Reddy and it has to be seen if YCP's trademark electioneering will help the party in the end.
