Kangana Ranaut's Indira Gandhi given a new 'Emergency' date

The Hindi-language political drama 'Emergency', starring Bollywood heroine Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi, will hit the screens on September 6. The film has been subjected to repeated postponements. 'Emergency' is the 'Queen' and 'Manikarnika' actress' last project, given she has decided to quit acting.

Zee Studios today made the new release date official, a day after PM Modi referred to Emergency in his Lok Sabha address. Since Kangana is a BJP MP, the symbolism is not lost on anybody. "The explosive saga of the most controversial episode of history of Indian Democracy, #EmergencyOn6Sept in cinemas worldwide," the makers added.

Can we really expect an "explosive saga" from 'Emergency'? Will it be a creative telling of the events that led to and that unfolded during the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi?

Shreyas Talpade (as Vajpayee), the versatile Anupam Kher (as Jayaprakash Narayan), Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, Bhumika Chawla, among others, are part of the cast. The film is produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana herself under Manikarnika Films.

With music by GV Prakash Kumar, the film has cinematography by Tetsuo Nagata. Zee Studios is going to distribute it.
