'Naa Saami Ranga' will be another 'President Gari Pellam' for Nagarjuna: MM Keeravani

'President Gari Pellam', directed by Kodandarami Reddy, was released in 1992. The Nagarjuna-Meena film was seen as an authentic village-based entertainer at that time. MM Keeravani says that 'Naa Saami Ranga', scheduled to be released on January 14 this year, will be another such film for Nagarjuna.

Interacting with the media in Hyderabad, Keeravani says that he enjoyed writing a melodious song themed on friendship. "Chandrabose wrote the rest of the songs. The song I have written was not planned originally. I worked on it on the go," the 'RRR' composer says.

Keeravani, known for classics like 'Annamayya' in association with Nag, is upbeat about the Sankranthi release. "Director Vijay Binni, as a newcomer, has worked with zeal," he avers. The film has been produced by Srinivasa Chitturi.

'Naa Saami Ranga', co-starring Ashika Ranganath, Allari Naresh and Raj Tarun, has an "item song". Keeravani, though, refuses to call it one. "The song features Nagarjuna, the lead man of the film. If it features the protagonist, how can it be called an item song? In any case, I don't believe in the term 'item song'. A good is either good or bad," the composer says.

The film, a remake of a Malayalam movie, is said to be rooted in Telugu nativity. "Remakes are of two kinds: copies and remakes that go beyond. Let me give an example. After this interview, I will do 'kadalika'. Did it make sense to you? I meant to say, 'I will make a move!'. That's what 'Naa Saami Ranga is like. Its treatment is completely different although the implied meaning is the same as the original," Keeravani explains.
