CBI books Megha Engineering on corruption charges in a steel plant project

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) booked Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited(MEIL) and eight officials of the NMDC Iron and Steel Plant (NISP), Ministry of Steel over allegations of corruption in connection with a Rs 315 crore project pertaining to the steel plant.

These days Telangana's engineering company, MEIL, has been in the news for being one of the top donors through electoral bonds. The MEIL donated Rs 584 crore to the BJP and Rs 195 crore to the Bharat Rashtra Samiti through electoral bonds.

 

Coming to the CBI case on Megha Engineering, the case was based on the complaint from chief vigilance officer of NMDC Ltd, CBI conducted a preliminary investigation and found indicative evidence pointing out the financial irregularities and registered a case under criminal conspiracy, forgery and bribing a public servant. Further probe is underway.

In its official pressnote, CBI has named 12 officials including eight officials of NMDC Ltd - Former Executive Director (Retd.), Prasant Dash, Dilip Kumar Mohanty(Director Production), Pradeep Kumar Bhuyan, DGM, Naresh Babu, Dy. Manager (Survey), Mr. Suvro Banerjee, Sr. Manager,K. Rajshekhar, General Manager (Finance),Somnath Ghosh, Manager (Finance), from NMDC Ltd., Ministry of Steel.Further official from NISP Ltd., Ministry of Steel, include, L. Krishna Mohan, Chief General Manager (Finance), K. Rajshekhar, General Manager (Finance),Naresh Babu, Dy. Manager (Survey),Suvro Banerjee, Sr. Manager. In addition to these public servants, Sanjeev Sahay, AGM (Contracts) (Retd.), and K. Illavarsu, DGM (Contracts) (Retd.), of MECON Ltd., Ministry of Steel were booked among others from MEIL.
