Sexist attacks on Kangana Ranaut to hurt Congress?

Kangana Ranaut is contesting on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, this Lok Sabha election season. Ever since the BJP announced her candidature, a section of Congress has made some personal remarks against her. Some remarks, however, have crossed the limits of decency.

Following certain objectionable social media posts by two Congress functionaries, the National Commission for Women has stepped up. "NCW is appalled by the disgraceful conduct of Ms. Supriya Shrinate and Mr. HS Ahir, who made lewd and derogatory remarks about Kangana on social media. Such behavior is intolerable and goes against the dignity of women. We have sent a letter to the Election commissioner of India demanding an immediate and strict action against them. Let's uphold respect and dignity for all women," the Commission said in an official statement.

Kangana is no public intellectual or even a hardworking political activist. Her entry into politics is lateral. She has been given the MP ticket only because of her celebrity status. The Congress is only creating a sympathy wave for Kangana by attacking her with sexist remarks. Ground reports say that Kangana's victory is expected, as the BJP is on a strong wicket in the seat.
