Congress Fields Ajay Rai Against Narendra Modi From Varanasi

The Indian National Congress (INC) party named its Uttar Pradesh chief Ajay Rai as the candidate from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the third time for the upcoming general election, 2024. Ajay Rai had lost to PM Modi twice before from the same constituency in 2014 and in 2019 as well.

In a press statement released by All India Congress Committee(AICC) On Saturday, March 22, 2024 in its fourth list, Congress named 46 candidates who would contest from the party for the upcoming elections. Some other names announced by the party includes Digvijay Singh from Rajgarh, Danish Ali from Amroha among others.

The 46 candidates are from different states like Madhya pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar pradesh, Assam, Manipuir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tamil nadu, West Bengal, Manipur, Mizoram, Jammu and Kashmir and Chhattisgarh were picked to contest from the party.

The first phase of 2024 Lok Sabha elections will begin from April 19.
