DMK MP Senthil Kumar today commented that the BJP can win elections only in Gomutra states. Gomutra means cow urine, something regarded as sacred and possessing medicinal properties by many Hindus.
The remark comes in the wake of the saffron party sweeping Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan but failing to make a mark in Telangana. Also, the party lost badly in Karnataka earlier this year. The so-called Gomutra states referred to by the DMK MP are the Hindi heartland states, including Uttar Pradesh, where Yogi Adityanath was voted back to power in March 2022.
The BJP has held the view that the 'Gomutra' jibe has been used to offend Hindus deliberately by some parties, including a few leaders belonging to the Congress party.
The DMK MP has been trolled by Netizens, who today reminded him of the dominant position held by the BJP in Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka since 2004. "Last time, the BJP won four Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. Next time, it is expected to win five at least despite the cut-throat competition from the Congress and the BRS. The BJP is becoming stronger and stronger in Tamil Nadu and has been in power in Puducherry," a commentator wrote.
