Depressed over the EC order, Volunteers tender mass resignations in Machilipatnam

Depressed over the Election commission order prohibiting the services of volunteers, scores of volunteers in Machilipatnam constituency expressed their dismay by collectively tendering their resignations on Monday, April 1 2024.

Election commission of India directive dated 30, March 2024 stated, “Volunteers shall be barred from distribution of cash benefits under any scheme(including pensions) to eligible beneficiaries”.

Speaking to the media a volunteer said, “For nearly four and a half years, our volunteer system played a vital role in facilitating pension disbursement to the elderly and physically challenged. Due to political vendetta, we have become the target of fabricated allegations. Upset with the attitude of Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan and BJP towards volunteers we have decided to submit our resignations.”

Another volunteer said, “Previously, elderly and physically challenged people used to flock to the municipal office and endure long waits to get their pension. However, with the volunteer system in place, they are spared from such hardships.”

Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders blame Naidu for the delay in dispersing the pensions to the needy.
