A recent NBC poll shows that almost 70% of GOP primary voters support former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential election, despite multiple criminal investigations and legal probes of tax frauds, incitement to violence, and misuse of classified documents. Trump's lead over his closest potential GOP rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, makes him the clear front-runner in the primaries.

However, a majority of Americans are displeased with the prospect of a Trump versus President Joe Biden rematch in 2024, citing concerns about the candidates' age, eligibility, and electability. Senior Congressmen, however, reject these concerns, citing the contributions of older senators and congressmen to the country.

The poll indicates that a significant majority of Americans do not want Trump or Biden to run for president in 2024, suggesting a potentially divisive and uninspiring general-election rematch between the two. Although sequels are hits at the box office, they are not popular at the ballot box, according to Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research, the Democratic pollster who conducted the poll with Republican pollster Bill McInturff and his team at Public Opinion Strategies.
