Prabhu Deva's 'Premikudu' up for grand re-release on THIS date

'Premikudu', starring Prabhu Deva, Nagma, SP Balasubramaniam, Vadivelu, Raghuvaran and Girish Karnad, is up for a grand re-release on 300 screens on May 1.

At the film's pre-release event in Hyderabad on Saturday, the makers said that advance bookings are open and that the response has been encouraging. Directed by S Shankar, the film features classic songs by AR Rahman.

Speaking on the occasion, producer Muralidhar Reddy said that the re-release is happening on CMR Production. "We thank our distributors for their support. We would like to express our special thanks to producer Kunjumon sir (the original producer) who has agreed to release this movie and supporting us," he added.

The film will be re-released in 4K quality.

This was Kunjumon's second film with Shankar, the first one being 'Gentleman'. It won four National Awards in Best Male Playback Singer (Unnikrishnan), Best Audiography, Best Editing, and Best Special Effects categories. Back then, many criticized the jury for not awarding AR Rahman, whose music was the prime reason why the film became a blockbuster in Telugu.

Some scenes involving the Governor's character in the film received backlash. At that time, AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa backed the film.
