Interview: Gopichand talks about his humongous action film 'Bhimaa'

'Bhimaa' is close to Gopichand's heart because he consciously desired a cop story way back in 2022. Director A Harsha of Sandalwood was given the task of honing a high-octane, action-heavy cop drama and the result is 'Bhimaa', whose music is by 'KGF' and 'Salaar' fame Ravi Basrur.

In his latest interview, Gopichand says that his March 8th theatrical release is a different beast altogether. There have been many cop stories but what is the USP of 'Bhimaa'? "It has a fantasy element. And this fantasy aspect is a crucial part of the story. In that sense, I call 'Bhimaa' a semi-fantasy action entertainer," says Gopichand.

Besides the element of a Brahma Rakshasa (the figurative reference to his cop character) metaphorically devouring Rakshasas (the villains), the film is also equipped with a "solid storyline" revved up by commerciality. Gopichand is aware that 'Bhimaa' is the most expensive film in his career. "Producer KK Radhamohan didn't reveal the budget to me though," he says.

Analyzing the failure of his 2023 disaster 'Rama Banam', Gopichand ponders, "Since the storyline and conflict plot point were dated, only the treatment could have made the difference. But the film, unfortunately, faltered on that front," he says.

Gopichand is doing a hilarious action entertainer with Sreenu Vaitla. "The director is making sure that his famed style of comedy is there in the film. About 30% of the shoot has been completed so far," the 'Seetimaar' actor says.
