'Yatra 2' is all set to hit the screens on February 8. Director Mahi V Raghav's Three Autumn Leaves, V Celluloids and Shiva Meka have produced the movie. The core unit today interacted with the Hyderabad-based cine media ahead of the theatrical release of their pro-YCP political movie.
Jiiva plays Jagan Mohan Reddy in the film. "I have tried to gain fluency in Telugu for the past 20 years. When 'Yatra 2' came my way, I was honestly shocked that I was approached for the character of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy garu. I doubted if I had the stature to pull off such a challenging role, especially when I did not know anything about AP politics. When I listened to the script, it dawned upon me that the story is about a son's promise to a father. This whole film is like an emotional journey. I was amazed by the storytelling. Even after the look test was done, I was not fully confident. It was only after I mouthed a dialogue that the director approved of me. I observed Jagan garu's body language by watching his public appearance videos," Jiiva said, thanking cinematographer Madhie for "transforming" him into Jagan on screen.
The film was shot in Pulivendula, Kadapa for 51 working days. "This will go down as a milestone in my career. It's so close to my heart," Jiiva added.
Director Mahi V Raghav said that a lot of scenes in the movie are unknown to the public. "We only know about Jagan garu's rise in a skeletal form. We all know that Gandhi fought for freedom. But what drove his fight, what drove his mission? That's not known to most of us. The emotional drive behind Jagan garu's political mission has been shown in 'Yatra 2'. In the trailer, you see YSR garu talk about a young girl's hearing impairment and why poor people need the state's backing in terms of health insurance. Not many know about such anecdotes. 'Yatra 2' takes inspiration from such real-life incidents and heightens the drama," Raghav added.
Ketaki Narayanan will be seen as YS Bharathi in the film. Santosh Narayanan is providing music for the film.
