'Animal' has been described by Karan Johar as his most favourite 2023 Hindi-language title. This came as a surprise pick from someone who is synonymous with a certain exclusive Bollywood culture.
In a recent interview, 'Animal' producer Pranay Reddy Vanga said that some people in Bollywood are upset that they have to make peace with the surging relevance of a "southern" filmmaker like Vanga in Mumbai. "T-Series, which invested in 'Animal', doesn't have a problem with Sandeep Vanga. But others have had issues," Pranay said, also attacking a set of hostile Bollywood film critics who have torn apart 'Animal' in their scathing reviews.
The endorsement from Karan Johar, the quintessential Bollywood establishment figure, suggests that Sandeep Vanga has gotten closer to the Hindi film industry after the stupendous success of 'Animal'. Working with a mainstream Hindi actor like Ranbir Kapoor, who hails from a film family, helped matters.
'Animal', co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Bobby Deol in other roles, has grossed more than Rs 900 Cr at the box-office.
Sandeep Vanga will be doing 'Spirit' with Prabhas next. The 'Salaar' actor will be seen in the role of a "sincere cop" in the action drama.
