Adult content in 'Rana Naidu' Vs clean content in 'Kumari Srimathi'

In his latest interview, actor-writer-director Srinivas Avasarala opined that success on OTT is not contingent on sexual content and violence. He quoted the example of his own web series, 'Kumari Srimathi', which he claimed has been successfully streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Ironically, this admission came on a day when Netflix said that 'Rana Naidu' was its most-watched Indian Original in the year 2023. 'Rana Naidu', starring Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati, had loads of sexual content and strong language.

"It is a myth that sex and violence are a sine qua non for a successful series or Original on OTT. I am told 'Kumari Srimathi', of which I am a creator, has been loved by the viewers. It has been a hit. We are going to do its second season as well. It's a neat family drama," Avasarala, known for directorials like 'Jyo Achyutananda' and 'Oohalu Gusagusalade', said.

'Kumari Srimathi', produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, had Nithya Menon in the lead. VK Naresh, Gautami and others were part of the cast. Like 'Kumari Srimathi', 'Rana Naidu', too, is going to have a second season.

As for Avasarala, he will be seen in a prominent role in 'Pindam', which hits the screens this Friday (December 15). The horror thriller co-stars Srikanth Sriram, Khushee Ravi and others. As for Venkatesh, he will next be seen in 'Saindhav', the Sankranthi 2024 release. Rana will be seen in 'Rakshasa Raja' in 2024.
