Vikram's 'Thangalaan' skips Sankranthi, opts for a new date

"Even the darkest mines shall glimmer with a golden beacon of hope. A fiery story of a bygone era that’s waiting to be told & cherished (sic)," the makers of Vikram's Tamil-language movie 'Thangalaan' today said, announcing its release date. The period drama will hit the screens on January 26, 2024. The film's teaser will be out on November 1 this year.

The film was expected to be a Pongal release. In Telugu, the film would have undoubtedly been bulldozed over by Mahesh Babu's 'Guntur Kaaram', Venkatesh's 'Saindhav', Ravi Teja's 'Eagle' and other movies. With a Republic Day release, it at least stands a chance.

Starring Malavika Mohanan and Parvathy Thiruvothu, the film is directed by Pa. Ranjith. GV Prakash Kumar, who is also composing music for Suriya's 43rd movie (to be directed by Sudha Kongara), is its music director. 'Thangalaan' is said to be made on a budget of Rs 150 Cr.
