Following the easing of largely unpopular Covid-19 restrictions, particularly the zero covid strategy, China is facing an unprecedented and massive surge of novel coronavirus cases. According to estimates, more than 60 per cent of China, which accounts for 10 percent of the entire Earth's population, is expected to get infected with Covid during the next 90 days.
The death count is also expected to be millions. One of Beijing's mass crematoria for Covid-19 patients is reportedly flooded with hundreds of dead bodies in recent days with the virus sweeping through the Chinese capital.
Although the country's abrupt lifting of pandemic restrictions was due to unrest among people, health experts predicted that this scenario may arise due to ineffective vaccination and lack of herd immunity. The latest estimate is frightening the whole world as China is facing what other countries faced two years ago.
