The country cannot forget the brutal horror that happened ten years ago in Delhi. A paramedic student was brutally gangraped and her internal organs were damaged when she was traveling in a bus with her friend. The incident shook the nation like never before.

There was collective outrage in the society and massive protests shook Delhi and other parts of the country. The case was expedited and sentencing was done quickly when compared to earlier cases. The then UPA government brought the Nirbhaya act to deal with rape crimes quickly and deliver speedy justice.

However, except for the fact justice is delivered soon these days, the violence against women has only increased multiple times and women are definitely not safe in the country. Right from a 2-year-old baby to 80-year-old woman, rapes are rampant in our society now. According to data from the National Crime Records Bureau, the crime rate per 1,00,000 women has increased from 40 in 2012 to more than 60 in 2021. The reasons could be many but it is imperative for the administration to take a hard stand on those who resort to such brutalities else nothing is going to change.
