Bribes for jobs at TCS? Here is what media reports are saying

A job at the tech major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is everyone's dream. The tech major recruits thousands of employees, including freshers, every year.

A Live Mint report on Friday claimed that a bribes-for-jobs scandal has hit the company. It was reported that HR officials associated with TCS have "hired thousands of engineers and amassed more than Rs 100 Cr in bribes" from staffing firms in the last few years. "The HR head and three others have been dismissed," wrote columnist Dilip Mandal, quoting the media report and expressing outrage over the development.

However, the company has told Indian Express that no fraud was found during an internal investigation of the company. "There was a breach of the company’s Code of Conduct by certain employees and vendors providing contractors in recruitment activities," the report said, quoting a source at TCS as saying that no managerial person was found to be involved in the breach.

Job consultancy firms and staffing service providers are known to enter into secret deals with the executives of MNCs to burnish their credentials in the job market. Sometimes, the company doesn't mind its executives entering into such deals with blessings from the top. Needless to say, such unethical arrangements put many job aspirants at a disadvantage. If a staffing firm in Hyderabad is given preference, a ruralite in Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh who is not fortunate enough to have access to that staffing firm will forever be at a loss.
