The turf war between Hyderabad and Bengaluru heats up with Telangana's Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao revealed that the capital city of Telangana, Hyderabad surpassed Bengaluru in job creations in the IT sector for the year 2022.

A total of 4.50 lakh jobs were created in India in the IT sector in 2002. The share of Bengaluru is 1.46 lakh jobs while Hyderabad added 150,000 jobs.  KTR stressed on the fact this is the eight consecutive time when Hyderabad moved beyond Bengaluru in terms of total office space absorption.

Among the 5 million employees who are engaged in the IT sector, one million are based from Hyderabad itself. The overall number of employees in the IT sector of Telangana increased from 3.23 lakh to 8.7 lakh in the last eight years and for the same period IT exports have seen a massive increase from Rs 57,000 crore to Rs 1.83 Lakh crore.

KTR appealed to the industry leaders to look beyond the city of Hyderabad and fully utilize the infrastructure being created for IT in Tier II cities like Khammam, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Warangal.
