The United States Embassy in India is all set to open a few drop box (interview waiver) appointments particularly for B1 (business) and B2 (tourist) visas in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai during this December.

As of November 29th the US state department website displayed a waiting period for B1/B2 interview waiver or dropbox which is about 297 days for Mumbai; 233 days in Delhi and 171 days for the city of Chennai. The B1/B2 applicants who had to appear for an interview have shown a waiting period of about 1,000 days in India.

In an attempt to cut the waiting time, the US is making more visa applicants eligible for the option of interview waiver. This would be for the first time ever sending that there will be “drop box” applications from India.

The US embassy in India had also added over a lakh appointments recently for the employment-based H&L category US visas as well as their family members. The H category, including H1B visas for drop box is a very high priority as such visa holders have been unable to visit India in recent years.
