The Election Commission of India has appointed Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS as the new Director General of Police(DGP). The appointment was issued by the ECI on May 6, 2024 and was implemented with immediate effect.
In its official letter, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said, “ …To inform that the Commission has acceded to the posting of Sh. Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS (RR:1992) as DGP (HoPF), Andhra Pradesh. The officer will take charge immediately and a compliance report will be submitted to the Commission by 5:00 PM on 6th May, 2024.”
During the election season and MCC in place, the ECI will have the powers to take up such important decisions.
