Undi Assembly: Can Jagan break TDP and RRR’s back?

The Undi assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh is one of the crucial segments in the electoral scene.

Undi stands as one of the strongest fortresses for the TDP, having been defeated only once since the party's formation in 1983. This time, the constituency witnesses a triangular contest.

YSRCP candidate P. V. L. Narasimha Raju who is contesting here despite his defeat in the 2019 election, remains available and accessible to party cadre. He garners sympathy for his consecutive losses and enjoys a good reputation in the segment. Narasimha Raju relies on the image of YS Jagan and government beneficiaries, as well as rural voting trends, which slightly favor YSRCP. He pins his hopes on a potential split in TDP votes between the official candidate and the rebel candidate.

TDP candidate Raghu Rama Krishna Raju, a former MP of Narsapuram, is renowned for his actions and has emerged as a rebel against the previous government. He possesses his own image and charisma throughout the Narsapuram segment and is financially well-off, potentially gaining extra mileage in vote share. However, he faces a threat from TDP rebel candidate Kalavapudi Siva. Raju relies heavily on the TDP-JSP vote bank, which constituted almost 60% in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Undi segment.

It has to be seen if the Jagan mark mass image can break the back of TDP mark domination and RRR’s image in Undi.
