The Kakinada parliament segment was overwhelmingly in support of Jagan's YSR Congress as the party candidate Vanga Geetha won the 2019 election by a comfortable margin. Jagan then replaced her as she sent her to Pithapuram assembly constituency.
Jagan opted to replace Vanga Geetha with Chalamalasetty Sunil, a financially deep-pocketed candidate here. JSP announced Tea Time Uday Srinivas as their candidate and he will be taking on Sunil.
On financial equations, both Sunil and Srinivas are of similar pedigree as both the entrepreneurs have made a fortune in their respective fields. But when it comes to public reception, Sunil is miles ahead of Srinivas.
The internal talk in Kakinada segment is that Sunil is a known face in all of Kakinada constituency. In the case of JSP candidate, not many voters in the pan-rural belts even know of him, say reports.
As things stand, Sunil's image and the goodwill on the YCP government in the Vanga Geetha regime have made the Kakinada parliament one-man-show. The financial spendings of the JSP candidate might fetch him a section of the votes but YCP's Sunil is the clear cut winner in the race.
