Record Turnout: 4.5 lakh govt school students take TOEFL junior test in Andhra

One of its kind of initiatives by the Andhra Pradesh government under Jagan's rule is now bearing fruit. In a significant milestone, 4.5 lakh students who are studying in primary schools in the state took the TOEFL Junior exams to test their English proficiency on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

Commenting on the success of the examination, Principal secretary to the School Education Department, Praveen Prakash, expressed satisfaction with the turnout, and said, “We are pleasantly surprised to see such a high turnout. It was overwhelming to see students studying in schools located in far flung rural and remote tribal areas participating in the exam.”

Prakash further added that Andhra Pradesh School Education Department gearing up to conduct the next phase of testing, scheduled for 12 April, where over 1.6 million students from Classes 6 to 9 are slated to take the TOEFL Junior exams across 5,907 schools.

It can be noted that the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department and Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to equip the students studying in state run schools with English language skills. As a part of the same, these Examinations are being conducted.

Prakash told the media that after students successfully clearing the examination, they will be awarded certificates.
