Edwin Castro has been revealed as the sole winner of the $2.04 billion (Rs 16,595 Cr) Powerball lottery, which took place in November 2022 and is the largest in US history. He opted for the lump sum payout of $997.6 million. Mr. Castro purchased the winning ticket in Altadena, California, and matched all six numbers in the drawing. While state laws in California require a lottery winner's name and other relevant information to be publicly revealed, Mr. Castro declined the invitation to appear publicly. He sent a written statement expressing his shock and ecstasy at having won.

The Powerball jackpot is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, with each ticket costing $2. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are one in 292.2 million. The previous record jackpot of $1.6 billion went unclaimed. After the winning ticket was announced, the service center that sold the golden ticket received a Powerball bonus of $1 million. While Mr. Castro's name was revealed, no other details were disclosed at the press conference.
