Pervez Musharraf, former President and chief of Army staff of Pakistan, has passed away in Dubai. He was 79 years old and was suffering from amyloidosis, a rare disease affecting connective tissues and organs.

Musharraf was born in Delhi and received his education in Karachi and Lahore.

He became the 10th President of Pakistan in 1999 after a successful military coup. He also served as the 10th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and as the seventh Chief of Army Staff.

In recent years, he was living in exile after facing charges related to the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Despite his troubles, he was determined to return to Pakistan. His death has sparked condolences from political leaders around the world.
