As part of the latest attempts to curb migration into the UK, British Home Secretary Suella Braverman is reportedly planning to slash down the period of stay which is currently being allowed for overseas students as part of the post-study visa route.
The new Graduate Visa plan that permits foreign graduates, which include Indians the opportunity to stay on in the country for job hunt and gain a work experience for a period of two years without any specific job offer, will be cut down under Braverman's proposed review.
Braverman is planning to fully reform the Graduate Visa route that requires students to obtain a work visa by securing skilled job or leave the UK immediately after six months. The move is widely expected to harm UK's lucrative appeal to the international students. The government believes that the Graduate Visa is being misused by students who enroll for short courses at not so reputed universities and this is being used as a backdoor immigration route.
