'Vijay Deverakonda was not rich, don't insult his struggles'

Vijay Deverakonda, in the past few days, has claimed twice that he was not well-to-do before 'Pelli Choopulu' happened. "I had no money to afford fuel even," he said in an interview.

This claim flies in the face of some facts perceived to be irrefutable. VD's uncle had financed 'Pelli Choopulu'. Had it not been for him, VD might probably not have got to team up with filmmaker Tharun Bhascker.

Netizens often also say that VD's family has been supported by KTR (although not monetarily). Don't know the basis of the claims made by VD's trolls, but it is often said that TRS supported VD during his 'PC', 'Arjun Reddy' and 'Geetha Govindam' days.

However, others say that VD did go through an economically unsound phase. Producer SKN of 'Taxiwala' and 'Baby' fame today tweeted that VD was living in a rented flat at Srinagar Colony in Hyderabad. "I got to know him because his flat was near my place. He used to lead a simple life," SKN wrote.

An aspiring filmmaker wrote that VD never enjoyed luxuries. "I worked with him during the making of 'Dwaraka'. He is not lying. He was struggling back then. To save fuel, he used to drive without AC. But yeah, his uncle from London invested in 'Pelli Choopulu' when he got famous after 'Yevade Subrahmanyam'. That way, he is privileged," wrote Rohit Chandra.
