It is true that after the OTT revolution has taken over, the cross border films have gotten a lot of attention and demand. In that, the Malayalam movies have taken the lion’s share of audience attention and appreciation. As a result, the Malayalam movie makers are now trying to tread into the Telugu circuit’s mainstream theatres.
However, the analysts believe it is expecting too much. Anyhow, one Malayalam product is all set to take the litmus test in Telugu. Titled as ‘Puli’, the film has Ciju Wilson in the lead while Kayad Lohar is the leading lady. Directed by Vinayan, this is a period flick which worked in Malayalam and is now being released in Telugu in the dubbed version.
For now, the only catch point for this project happens to be the period backdrop which has gained attention post ‘Baahubali’. The makers are quite confident it would work in Telugu as well but with no known faces and a typical Malayalam flavor, it remains to be seen how things fare at the box office.
