Gone are the days when movie releases were all about hitting the theatres. With the OTT revolution, things have changed and many films are now opting for the OTT release for business reasons. Here are certain films that were released directly on OTT and tried their luck directly, without a filmy release.
1. Bhama Kalaapam
Bhama Kalaapam is a crime comedy thriller film written and directed by Abhimanyu. Produced by SVCC Digital, the film starred Priyamani alongside John Vijay, Shanthi Rao, and Sharanya Pradeep. The title and the central theme were based on Bhamakalapam, a traditional dance style of Andhra Pradesh inspired by a headstrong, proud Satyabhama. The film was released on 11th February 2022 on Aha. Except for Priyamani’s performance the film was dismissed by critics.
2.Malli Modalaindi
Malli Modalaindi is a romantic comedy film directed by T. G. Keerthi Kumar and produced by K. Rajasekhar Reddy. The film stars Sumanth and Naina Ganguly in the lead roles while the soundtrack was composed by Anup Rubens. It was released directly on 11th February 2022 on Zee5 and received negative reviews from the critics.
3.Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary is a crime drama film directed by Chandoo Mondeti and written by Prasanth Kumar Dimmala. It stars Nivetha Pethuraj, Brahmaji, Ajay, and Kireeti Damaraju. The plot follows three orphaned childhood friends—Mary, Raju, and Basha, based in Vizag and they find themselves embroiled in a murder case. Bloody Mary released on 15th April 2022 on Aha to mixed reviews.
4. The American Dream
The American Dream is a thriller film written and directed by Dr. Vighnesh Koushik. Produced by Dr. Pradeep Reddy, the film starred Prince Cecil and Neha Krishna in lead roles. It was released on 14th January 2022 on Aha and didn’t get a special mention.
5. Highway
Highway is a crime thriller film written and directed by K. V. Guhan. The film features Anand Deverakonda, Manasa Radhakrishnan and Abhishek Banerjee in main roles. Highway released on Aha on 19th August 2022. The film had the potential to be a dark thriller but it ended up a damp squib.
6. Odela Railway Station
Odela Railway Station is a crime thriller film directed by Ashok Teja and created by Sampath Nandi. It had an ensemble cast of Hebah Patel, Pujita Ponnada, Vasishta N. Simha and Sai Ronak and was reportedly based on the real incidents which occurred in Odela, India. It was released on Aha on 26th August 2022.
7. Ammu
Ammu is a drama thriller film written and directed by Charukesh Sekar and produced by Stone Bench Films. The movie had Aishwarya Lekshmi, Naveen Chandra and Bobby Simha in key roles and was released on Amazon Prime on Video on 19th October 2022. The film earned positive reviews.
