Producer Dil Raju is known as the man with the golden hand because of his ability to read the pulse of a movie and its stamina at the box office even before it releases. At the same time, he also has the expertise to position the film's timing and release as per the external conditions. Sometimes, it could also be due to the internal conditions such as poor output of the movie or something doubtful about the quality.
One of Dil Raju's upcoming projects is 'Shakuntalam' and this has the cute smile queen Samantha in the lead with the Malayalam actor Mohan Dev as her pair. The film is helmed by the veteran Gunasekhar and it is based on the mythological tale of King Dushyant and Shakuntala. As such, the film was scheduled to release last year but it has been getting postponed.
Now, the film was due for release during Sivaratri but got postponed to summer. Inside sources say this is the plan of Dil Raju. While some say he postponed the release to leverage the summer advantage, few others say Dil Raju may have been not that satisfied with the total output and that's why he wants to take advantage of the holiday season in summer.
There is no doubt that the hype and expectation after seeing the pre-release material has been high but a closer look reveals Gunasekhar is a veteran filmmaker who doesn't have any recent hits to his credit. Also, this is a mythological tale whose story is known to all so the genre may not attract the mass or youth audience. While the reason can be anything, many are saying that Dil Raju's plan to change the release time has more to do with the business and box office performance than anything else.
