Netizens shocked about a New Year's Eve video from Bengaluru

The other day, on the night of December 31, a few party revellers on the streets of Bengaluru were seen coming out of a pub. They were intoxicated and some of them could barely stand. The viral video has triggered outrage from some conservative sections on social media.

A few residents of Chennai said that they are happy that their city is too rigid culturally for "Westernization" to pervade. "I want Chennai to remain conservative. This level of degeneracy can't be tolerated," a Twitter user wrote.

The fact of the matter is that New Year's Eve parties in cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru have long become everything about drinking in pubs. It is an open secret and Chennai is no exception to this modernization. Only the degree of indulgence varies.

Some sections of the media and YouTube channels film these revellers and invade their privacy for viewership. And then, the public resorts to "moral policing" and "public shaming" of the party animals, putting off a vast section of youngsters.

The expression of dismay over the party culture has invited wise counsel from some individuals. "You, me, or anyone doesn't have the right to capture these people in their inebriated state and flash them all over social media unless they have engaged in anything illegal. Too much moral policing will come back to bite everyone," wrote Kishore Iyer, a Twitter user.
