Should alcohol be made legal on college campuses in India?

A student belonging to Jadavpur University has opined that Universities and colleges are like the second home and so, alcohol consumption must be allowed on their campuses. Her views have been filmed by a YouTube channel. The video clip has gone viral on social media.

The female student has been accused of trying to legitimize an ultra-liberal ideology in the garb of freedom and rights. The woman seems to hold the view that the 'Right to Drink' must be respected on campuses across the country.

It is argued that, in many Western countries, alcohol consumption on campuses is commonplace. Binge drinking and other aspects of alcohol consumption have existed for decades. Studies in those countries have pointed to the danger of underage alcohol consumption. One of them involves worsening academic performance. "Other consequences include sexual assaults, suicide attempts, health problems, injuries, unsafe sexual behavior, and driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as vandalism, damage, and involvement with the police," a study by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, which is part of the US National Institutes of Health, once said.
