SBI Chairman's salary will literally shock you!

Typically, when we hear that someone's salary will leave us shocked, our initial assumption tends to lean towards the notion that they earn an exceptionally high income. However, in this case, we must adopt a contrary perspective. The salary of the SBI chairman is astonishingly low.

As per a report put out by Money Control, Dinesh Khara, the Chairman of the State Bank of India, earned an annual salary of Rs 37 lakh in 2022-23. A senior software engineer in many private companies earns more than this figure. The salary of the CEO of HDFC Bank, in contrast, was Rs 6.51 Cr for the same year.

The shocking contrast is making analysts call out the government. If there is a huge disparity between what a chairman earns in the public sector and what a similarly-placed leader earns in the private sector, efficiency is going to take a hit. "The chairman of SBI, which earns Rs 50,000 Cr of profits, which has a Rs 59 Lakh crore Balance sheet, which has a Rs 5 Lakh Cr + market value is paid a partly Rs 37 lakh for his great work! ⁦This is not right," tweeted Mohandas Pai, the former Infosys executive.
