For Canadian Indians facing a huge backlog of visa appointments to visit their home country, India here’s some news to cheer after a gap of nearly three years.

The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has announced that it would be restoring the e-Visa facility for Canadian passport holders. In recent times, a record number of Indians have opted for Canadian citizenship by renouncing Indian passports. India provides OCI card and visa facilities for them to visit India.

The number of native Canadians visiting India for tourism purposes is smaller compared to those who wish to travel to India for meeting friends and relatives. They are experiencing agonizing wait times even after post covid lockdown situation, and there has been a huge backlog at BLS Visa centres, the authorized visa agency for Indians in Canada.

NRIs have been lamenting the waiting period for all services pertaining to India and have expressed their disappointment on multiple occasions. Restoring the popular and hassle-free e-visa option for Canadian passport holders is great news to cheer. Moreover, with the recent open skies agreement, a higher number of flight routes are expected to open between India and Canada, including new direct flight routes.
