WhatsApp users on both iOS and Android across the world will soon be able to lock select chats. The new feature was rolled out on May 15. At the time of writing, many users are yet to see the update.
"WhatsApp will soon allow you to lock and hide some intimate conversations. New locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private. They are hidden in a password-protected folder and notifications won't show sender or message content,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been quoted as saying.
In a statement, WABetaInfo stated that the feature can be accessed easily. "To lock a conversation, open your chat info and you should see an option called Chat Lock in case the feature is (already) available for your account," the website wrote.
To ensure privacy, users would prefer that any hidden content remains undisclosed to others and leaves no digital trace. If not, others will be able to know that you have hidden something.
Netizens are urging the Telegram app to introduce a similar feature.
