Former Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar passed away today while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Visakhapatnam. Vatti, who was from Poondla in the West Godavari district, had been unwell for some time and was 70 years old. His family is now bringing his remains to his hometown.

Vatti had a successful political career, having won as MLA in 2004 and 2009 from the Unguturu Assembly constituency. He served as a minister in the cabinets of YSR, Rosaiah, and Kiran Kumar Reddy, holding various positions such as Rural Development and Tourism. He was also a prominent leader within the Kapu community and held significant influence in the politics of the West Godavari district, as well as neighboring areas, during YSR's tenure.

However, after the 2014 elections, Vatti withdrew from politics and resigned from the Congress party. He made headlines when he met with Pawan Kalyan, leading to speculation that he might join the Janasena Party, but Vatti later stated that the meeting was simply out of respect and not for political reasons
