Big Tamil stars making their foray into Tollywood and trying their luck has been happening since eons. However, Ilayathalapathy Vijay has been somewhat behind in the race. This time, it was a golden opportunity as the director and producer is Telugu. So, let us see if this attempt has actually worked or not.

Story

Rajendra (Sarath Kumar) is a mining entrepreneur who believes in nothing but business. So are his two sons (Shaam, Srikanth). However, the third son Vijay (Vijay) is of a different kind. He disagrees to abide by his father and hence thrown out of the house. However, he is in regular touch with his mother Jaya (Jayasudha). Soon, Vijay starts his own company which becomes a unicorn. Meanwhile, Rajendra falls in trouble as he is diagnosed with cancer and both his sons begin eyeing the inheritance. On the other hand, Rajendra’s arch rival Jayaprakash (Prakash Raj) enters the scene to take over the business. At this point arrives Vijay reluctantly to bring the crumbled family together and also resolve the issues. Is he successful in this attempt or not forms the rest of the tale.

Performances

Vijay did his bit as required and he is quite a treat to the fans as he offers his share of dances in songs, few jokes which are sportive and also few dialogues which are aimed at the competitors. Rashmika Mandanna was there for the songs and glamour dose than performance. Sarath Kumar was standard. Jayasudha was natural. Prakash Raj was underused. Sham and Srikanth did their bit as required. Yogi Babu brought few smiles. Prabhu was usual. S J Suryah was good. The others were there to fill the screen and had nothing much to offer.

Crew
The story was quite outdated and didn’t have anything new or interesting to offer. The script was written lethargically and the screenplay was equally mild. The background score was good and two songs were worth humming. Cinematography was excellent. Editing was missing sharpness during the entire proceedings. Art department was fantastic while costumes were excellent. The fight and stunt department made their presence felt, the brownie points go to the production values as there was no compromise in each and every frame.

Deeper Look
It was a matter of pride for the Tollywood circuit when director Vamshi got the chance to direct a Tamil superstar. As such, there is a strong belief that Telugu industry is far behind Tamil cinema when it comes to content driven cinema. Also, the Telugu storylines are mocked as the entire focus is on mass elements and heroism elevations rather than proper substance and a plotline that has depth. Well, it appears that this golden opportunity got entirely wasted as the director has again implemented the stale template. At least for the Telugu audience, they have seen umpteen number of films where a hero who is discarded from the family returns to fix all the problems and unite everyone. It is rather strange to see why again the same rotten storyline was chosen and that too for a star who commands immense following in the neighbouring state. The film takes off in a routine style and with a morose setting of the storyline. Despite the presence of strong performers, the entire focus is on the protagonist and there is little movement in the story till the first twenty minutes. The interval bang was alright and the woes continue during the second half. Throughout the film, there is not a single scene where the audience doesn’t know what is going to come next. Barring few light hearted moments, some sentimental sequences, the entire film proceeds on a track which has been visited several times by the audience. Overall, this is a film which has certainly not got anything worthwhile and at the box office, it would be completely overshadowed with the success of ‘Veera Simha Reddy’ ‘Waltair Veerayya’. Of course, it might work a bit in Tamil Nadu owing to the Vijay frenzy and the Pongal fervor. However, from a content point of view or a subject perspective the film has failed to evoke anything interesting.

This ‘Heir’ Can Be Disowned!
