The BRS party led by Telangana's Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, is preparing for a state-wide protest if party member Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who is also an MLC, are arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in relation to the Delhi liquor scam.

This comes after the arrest of Hyderabad-based liquor dealer Arun Ramachandra Pillai, who allegedly named Kavitha as his benami in the remand report submitted to the ED. Kavitha has already received a summons to appear before the ED in New Delhi on March 9, but has requested a delay until March 15, citing prior engagements, including a dharna at Jantar Mantar.

However, sources suggest that the real reason for the delay is to allow the BRS MLC to prepare for the state-wide protests that will follow her arrest. Upon hearing the news, Kavitha sought advice from her father, who informed her that instructions had already been issued to all BRS leaders and supporters in Telangana to launch a state-wide protest in the event of her arrest.

This would be followed by a nation-wide movement against what they see as a witch-hunt by the Centre against opposition party leaders. Following the ED's notice to Kavitha, there has been a surge of statements from BRS leaders, including ministers and MLAs, condemning the Centre's actions and showing support for Kavitha and Telangana. Sources say that this could be a 'Jagan' moment for BRS. Following his arrest in 2012, Jagan emerged as an icon, who remained steadfast in not compromising with the then ruling Congress and went to jail rather than surrender.
