A 16-year-old student named Swatik hanged himself in a classroom of a private residential college in Gandipet, Hyderabad, allegedly due to harassment by two lecturers and a hostel warden. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, and the victim was discovered by his classmates who alerted the college authorities. However, the management did not respond, and the students themselves took Swatik to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The family, relatives, and friends of the deceased held the college management responsible for the suicide and staged a protest, demanding action against the management. The Education Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy has directed the secretary of Board of Intermediate Education to conduct an inquiry.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the need to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students, where they can feel free to express themselves without fear of harassment or bullying.  Moreover, the spate of recent suicides is piling a lot of pressure on the state government of Telangana, that too in an election year.
