There was a time when the unified Andhra Pradesh had a strong presence of communists and while the Telangana region had communist influence in Khammam, Warangal etc, the Andhra region saw the same effect even in cities like Vijayawada. However, with passing time the red effect faded due to lack of proper ideology, committed leadership and other challenges.

Despite that, communists have some presence in the Telangana region and this time, their representative the CPM is making plans to enter into the assembly. Ever since the state got bifurcated, CPM has not been able to win even a single seat so they have vowed that in next election at least one member of theirs would step into the assembly. For this, they are coming up with various strategies.

As such, CPM is an official ally of the BRS but despite that they are chalking out their own plans. Reports reveal that CPM is targeting 9 constituencies for the upcoming assembly elections. Though they are contesting diligently in all formats of elections, they are unable to secure a victory. While CPM has officially declared that it will tie up with BRS for elections, the same confirmation has not come from BRS.

If by any chance BRS takes a backstep, CPM has decided not to alter its plans. Their target areas are the Khammam and Ranga Reddy districts where they still have some strong cadre. There are also reports that Tammineni Veerabhadram will contest from Paleru and ex-MLA Julakanti Ranga Reddy from Miryalaguda.

The other areas being focused are Wyra, Kothagudem, Madhira, Bhadrachalam, Nakirekal, Ibrahimpatnam and even Musheerabad in Hyderabad. In case the alliance with BRS works and they have to forgo a seat or two, the CPM is willing to give away Musheerabad and Ibrahimpatnam but not the rest. The way things are going, it appears CPM has got a firm resolve to score a victory at any cost. Let us see how the Red Army will fare this time.
