The spate of bad news in political circles continues. After the passing away of Nandamuri Tarakaratna who began playing an active role in TDP Politics in Andhra Pradesh, tragedy has struck the BRS party. The veteran politician and 5-time MLA of Cantonment area, G Sayanna, breathed his last owing to ailing health conditions. His death is being seen as untimely.

Sayanna has worked with the likes of TDP as well and has held ministerial positions too. After his demise, discussions have already started on what is going to be the fate of the Cantonment area. As per election code of conduct, if the main elections are more than six months away then a bypoll has to be held because it cannot be without an elected representative.

However, if bypolls are held and someone gets elected, his/her term might just be for three or four months because there is a strong likelihood that BRS might be going in for an early election which could be scheduled during the month of December or so. Hence, it has to be seen which route will be taken by the BRS. As such, if given an option they would want to include this constituency in the main election only instead of going in for a bypoll.

Apparently, BRS would not want to take chance at the last moment and if for any reason, any other party manages to grab a victory at Cantonment it is going to be a very severe blow to the party. Hence, the ball now would be in the court of the Election Commission on how to proceed. Whether BRS's lobbying will work or not is something that remains to be seen. Sayanna has three daughters and the expectation is that one among them might now be asked to stand for election whenever it takes place.
