Polavaram project can be described as the lifeline of AP. It is a multipurpose project. If the Polavaram project is completed, there will be no problem for water for AP. Polavaram project is a dream of eighty years. It has not been realized even today and no one knows where there is wrongdoing in the case of Polavaram.
Former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar raised this doubt before everyone else. But then this matter seemed new and no one noticed. But after that, the discussion on the same subject is going on. Recently, former YSR's advisor MP KVP Ramachandra Rao also wrote a letter to Jagan in this regard. If it is true that lowering the height of Polavaram is true, there is nothing more to betray the Andhra's.
Regarding Polavaram, Chief Minister YS Jagan said in the Assembly that the height of Polavaram is currently being limited to 41.15 meters. Jagan clarified that Polavaram will be eventually widened to 45.7 meters. He said that his government has sincerity in the matter of Polavaram and added that Polavaram is the result of YSR's dream.
Meanwhile, the Center also made a statement about Polavaram at the same time. Union Minister of State for Water Resources Prahlad Singh Patel also said that the height of Polavaram is only 41.15 meters. He said that all this is only till the completion of the relief work in the initial phase. In fact, he said that this rehabilitation should be completed by February 2023, but there is a delay even in March. The center says that the government has provided assistance and rehabilitation to only 11,677 displaced persons in the case of the Polavaram project.
In fact, the cost of rehabilitation is higher than the co-irrigation component of the Polavaram project. It will cost around 33 thousand crore rupees. Such a large amount of expenditure means that it is impossible for the AP government to finance it unless the center gives funds. How much more confusion might take root in the matter of the height of Polavaram, and what is the strategy, only time has to tell.
