In 2014, after the Narendra Modi-led BJP government came to power, it crushed major opposition parties, including the Congress, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, Sharad Pawar's NCP, Farooq Abdullah's National Conference, Deve Gowda's JDS, Hemant Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Uddav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, and other parties. The Modi wave clearly shocked these parties.

In 2019, the Modi wave was even stronger than in 2014, and the strongest opposition parties trembled like buds. Many believe that no opposition party can face Modi even in the 2024 elections. The opposition parties are divided, with some proposing a non-BJP front, some suggesting a non-Congress front and others advocating for an alliance of G-8 CMs. Given this scenario, it appears that the BJP's rise will be unstoppable in 2024.

Some argue that the BJP government at the center is responsible for this situation. In 2018, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi commented that the name of the house of thieves in the country is Modi. A Gujarat BJP leader filed a petition in the Surat court against Rahul Gandhi, and the court sentenced him to two years in jail. However, the court granted Rahul a month's time to file an appeal. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Secretariat declared Rahul Gandhi ineligible for membership of the Lok Sabha after his sentence.

This decision received widespread criticism at the national level, with Congress leaders standing in solidarity with Rahul Gandhi. The opposition was furious, accusing the BJP of promoting dictatorship over democracy. Fourteen opposition parties filed a petition in the Supreme Court, alleging that the ED and the CBI are targeting opposition leaders with the IT department. Telangana CM and BRS chief KCR, who had maintained an equal distance from the BJP and Congress, also supported Rahul Gandhi and criticized the central government for cancelling his membership of the Lok Sabha.

In this background, all the opposition parties are preparing to protest against the central government's behavior. The DMK, NCP, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, and JDU, already allies of the Congress party, are also getting ready for protests. Other parties, such as the BRS, NCP, Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi, Samajwadi, and Bahujan Samajwadi, will join them. With only a year left until the general elections, it is believed that if all the opposition parties unite, the BJP will face a tough challenge.
