Interview: 'Record Break' director-producer Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao

Given 'Record Break' narrates the aspirational tale of well-built wrestlers and their cross-country achievements, director-producer Chadalavada Srinivasa Rao feels that, in the olden days, actors like NT Rama Rao and Krishnam Raju would have been apt for the characters. Set to hit the screens on March 8, 'Record Break' stars Nihaar, Nagarjuna, Raghda Iftekhar, and Satya Krishna in pivotal roles.

In his latest interview, Srinivasa Rao reflects on the feedback he received after last week's pre-release screening for the media and his friends. "After the show, they told me there couldn't have been a better title than 'Record Break'," he says, counting on the power of mother sentiment in the film.

It was with the 2016 blockbuster 'Bicchagadu' (the Telugu-dubbed version of Vijay Antony's 'Pichaikaran') that Srinivasa Rao made a spectacular comeback. "That film was about a son's sacrifices for the physical health of his beloved mother. In 'Record Break', you can see a reversal of sorts; the sentiment behind the mother's sacrifices here is ennobling," he says.

Srinivasa Rao breathes and lives cinema. "I began my journey as a small timber businessman in Tenali. I went on to make many films. Even in my sleep, I dream of cinema," he says. Despite the huge monetary resources at his display, he has consciously stayed away from working with superstars. Srinivasa Rao doesn't pine for their dates. As a senior industry person, he has certain self-imposed rules he abides by.

But that doesn't mean he is averse to making big-scale movies. Should 'Record Break' secure even pass marks, says Srinivasa Rao, he will produce a major movie of international standards.
